Derek's two ultra Marathons for animals! 🏃♂️
Hey all! I'm Derek, and I’m pushing myself to complete both a Backyard Ultra AND a 100 Mile Ultra this autumn to raise money for the animals!
I stumbled across the famous Gary Yourofsky college speech 'Best Speech You Will ever hear' 5 years ago during the COVID lockdown and it inspired me to go vegan overnight. It felt so obvious to me that if I don’t HAVE to abuse or exploit animals to live a healthy, happy life, then why am I? It took me 25 years before I’d even thought about the ethical issues of what we do to animals, and I only wish I’d found an animal rights group sooner.
I have decided to help raise funds for We The Free, as I greatly appreciate their efforts in trying to make the world a better place for animals. I think creating positive conversations around how humans treat our fellow earthlings is the most effective way for people to think more about their choices and hopefully go vegan. That’s why I’m taking on this challenge, to raise funds for this awesome organisation the is dedicated to help those who desperately need us.
I’ll be training myself physically and mentally to take on a Backyard Ultra on 20th September and a 100 mile Ultra on 4th October. I am hoping to have a solid finish at both of these events, and it would be amazing if I can hit my fundraising target.
The thing that makes this fundraiser unique is that there is a matching program, which means all money raised will be TRIPLED! So if I can reach my goal of $1000, I will effectively raised $3000!
All the money raised will enable WTF to continue supporting activist as they have thought-provoking conversations with people all over the world on behalf of our animal friends who need us the most.
