Mery
Regional Support Lead: Europe
Biography
Mery became vegan in 2019 after a truly inspirational conversation with an activist she met while staying in an Airbnb during her English studies in Bournemouth. That conversation helped her realize that she wasn’t living in alignment with her values, leading her to make the decision to go vegan.
About a year later, she discovered videos of people doing vegan outreach and immediately felt drawn to that form of activism. Motivated to take action, she searched for activist organizations in Madrid, found a few, and soon joined them.
Since then, Mery has primarily focused on vegan outreach but has also taken part in marches, protests, and performance-based activism. In addition, she volunteers at a vegan sanctuary, where she finds joy in witnessing the positive and compassionate side of veganism.
At We The Free, Mery serves as a Regional Support Lead, mainly supporting teams across Europe. Her responsibilities include organizing calls and meetings with organizers, inducting new teams, and providing ongoing support.
Before joining WTF, Mery worked as a social worker for over 13 years. Her experience spans various roles in the social care sector, including positions with charities such as the Red Cross, private companies in Community Education and Youth Work, and most recently, as a public employee in the Child Protection Services in Madrid.
Teaching and supporting vulnerable communities has always been a passion for Mery. That passion led her to study Social Education, with the goal of standing up for and empowering those most in need.

Working at We The Free truly feels like a dream come true.
I can’t imagine a better place to work, not only because I get to fight every day for something I deeply believe in, the liberation of animals, but also because I’m surrounded by the most incredible team I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. These are people I admire deeply, not just for their dedication and activism, but for who they are: pure-hearted, genuine, and full of integrity. It’s a gift to be able to dedicate my time and energy to a cause I'm so passionate about, alongside such inspiring human beings.
